NRN.com wins Neal Award for Best Website

Nation’s Restaurant News was selected as a winner for Best Website at the 59th annual Jesse H. Neal Awards, a national competition honoring the best in business media, presented by American Business Media.

The newest NRN.com, which debuted in November, won its category of business publications with more than $7 million in gross advertising and circulation revenue. Other finalists included the websites of American Banker, Architect magazine and Engineering News-Record.

The judging panel, chaired by Diana Henriques, contributing writer at The New York Times, selected 46 Neal Award winners out of 138 finalists from an original 640 entries.

“Judges said this website’s fairly simple design gave way to some highly innovative thinking in terms of data-analytics and reporting, including sentiment and menu-trackers and real-time monitoring of social media coverage,” Neal Awards judges said. “This is the path that all b-to-b publishers should be on," said one judge.

Established in 1955, the Neal Awards recognize and reward editorial excellence in business media. Winning entries were selected for exhibiting journalistic enterprise, service to the field and editorial craftsmanship.

“It is such an honor to take home Best Website from the prestigious American Business Media Neal Awards,” said Sarah Lockyer, editor-in-chief at Nation’s Restaurant News. “This serves not only as recognition for the hard work Nation’s Restaurant News’ editorial team puts in each day to provide the best news, data and information for the restaurant industry’s most trafficked website, but also as an incentive to continue driving NRN’s digital leadership, both in functionality and quality content.”

NRN.com relaunched in November 2012 with revamped features, functionality and design. The new, mobile-optimized NRN.com includes Top 100 chain profiles, reader polls and a News Dashboard providing readers with breaking news and information in one easy-to-read section.

“This is no overnight success but one that has been years in the making,” said Nation’s Restaurant News publisher Randall Freidman. “Our team has worked incredibly hard creating the leading website in foodservice — and now recognized as the best in B2B media.”
