The Olympic Games are on many people’s minds, and foodservice operators are working to make the most of them with special Olympics-themed food and drinks. Given that the International Olympic Committee tends to get litigious when the Games’ intellectual property is used without permission, operators have gotten creative with their promotions by using broad themes to evoke the quadrennial competition.
Some have celebrated American excellence with patriotic-themed menu items. Others have observed the international nature of the Games with food that draws on global inspiration. Still others are paying homage to the Olympics’ host country, Brazil. And some are just promoting competition-themed items. Finally, a few are honoring specific athletes.
