The Chicago-based fast-casual sandwich brand said Fitzgerald will continue as CFO until Dec. 27, and it has already begun the search for a successor.

Fitzgerald has served as CFO since December 2018when he succeeded Michael Coyne in the role.

Alan Johnson, Potbelly’s CEO, said, “Tom has been a strong contributor to Potbelly over the last year, and we wish him continued success in the future.

“Our leadership team remains wholly focused on accelerating our transformation through the recent steps we announced that are helping us adjust and sharpen our brand position, menu offering and overall experience,” Johnson said in a statement.

Fitzgerald said, “My decision to leave Potbelly is entirely based on the strength of the opportunity that was presented to me.”

Potbelly, founded in 1977, has more than 400 company-owned shops in the United States and franchises more than 50 restaurants.
