Round Table Pizza closes all Boise units

CONCORD Calif. Round Table Pizza has reportedly closed seven Boise, Idaho-area restaurants, saying they were no longer economically viable.

According to a report in The Idaho Statesman, employees showed up for work Thursday only to find doors locked and a sign indicating their termination. Roughly 100 employees are believed to be impacted.

In a statement to the newspaper, company officials blamed the closures on low consumer confidence as a result of high gas prices, the sub-prime mortgage crisis and soaring commodities prices, especially for wheat and cheese.

Officials with Concord, Calif.-based Round Table Pizza, which operates or franchises about 500 units in the West, did not immediately return calls.

Earlier this week, Donatos Pizza, a 180-unit chain, closed its seven remaining company stores in Orlando, Fla., after closing another four in October. The Columbus, Ohio-based company reportedly said the cost of the running the stores was too high.
