Figaro's buys Sargo's Subs concept

SALEM Ore. Figaro's Italian Pizza, operator or franchisor of 114 delivery and take-and-bake namesake locations, has acquired the 10-unit Sargo's Subs, an Italian-themed submarine sandwich retail system. Terms of the deal were not disclosed in Figaro's March 12 statement.

Figaro's chairman and chief executive, Ron Berger, said he would expand the two brands by offering Sargo's franchises to both prospective and existing Figaro's franchisees. In addition, Figaro's franchisees would be offered the opportunity to sell a selection of Sargo's sandwiches in their Figaro's units.

Sargo's was founded in 2004 in Portland by Richard Persinger, who will be joining Figaro's in a senior management role, the company said, to support Sargo's franchisees and assist Figaro's in growing the Sargo's brand and absorbing its sandwich business. Sargo's stores are located in California, Oregon and Washington.

Figaro's was founded in 1981 and recently signed franchise agreements abroad in Mexico and the United Arab Emirates. Most of its locations are based in the Northwest United States.

Both Figaro's and Sargo's said the merged companies will target the states of Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin, California and Nevada for future growth.
