CHART conference attendees talk training, aid local charity

PORTLAND Ore. —Better training methods and ways to get employees to take ownership of their work and help their companies grow were some of the topics at the Council of Hotel and Restaurant Trainers’ 77th semiannual conference, held here this spring.

More than 130 trainers and human resources professionals attended the three-day event, which included keynote speakers, workshops and a community charity event. Attendees assembled 20 children’s bicycles for Portland Boys & Girls Clubs. The bikes were presented to the children during the conference. —Better training methods and ways to get employees to take ownership of their work and help their companies grow were some of the topics at the Council of Hotel and Restaurant Trainers’ 77th semiannual conference, held here this spring.

Three keynote speakers focused on ways to improve training programs. Tim Kirkland, author of “The Renegade Server,” provided suggestions for servers to “own their sections” and grow their tips by creating regulars.
