Chicken Biscuit: The food that can stand out at any hour of the day

Fried chicken breast on a biscuit has long been a staple breakfast in the Southeast, but the growing popularity of fried chicken sandwiches in general has paved the way for this item to break out as a new favorite in the rest of the country, and not just during the morning daypart.

Although classically served simply as-is — boneless fried chicken, unadorned, on a biscuit — it can be dressed up with honey, barbecue sauce or any other number of condiments. In fact, legend has it that Nashville hot chicken started as a breakfast item, prepared by a woman seeking to punish her husband after a night of infidelity. As fortune would have it, he loved spicy food and a new popular sandwich was born.

The chicken biscuit in general is quite popular. According to market research firm Datassential’s FLAVOR tool, 73% of consumers who have tried it say they like it or love it.

Datassential reports that chicken biscuits are currently found on 1.1% of U.S. menus, up 57% over the past four years.
