BBQ Holdings names Jim Gilbertson CFO

Famous Dave’s parent hires former Granite City financial chief

BBQ Holdings Inc., formerly Famous Dave’s of America Inc., has named Jim Gilbertson as its new chief financial officer, the company said Thursday.

The Minnetonka, Minn.-based brand, which took on the new corporate name last September, said Gilbertson most recently served as CFO of Bluespire Inc., a digital marketing agency in Minneapolis. He earlier served as CFO at Children’s Broadcasting Corporation (Radio AAHS), Navarre Corp. and Granite City Food & Brewery.

“We are excited for the addition of Jim to our BBQ family,” said Jeff Crivello, BBQ Holdings CEO, in a statement. “Jim’s depth and breadth of knowledge with public companies and acquisitions is the skill set we were looking for. Jim has a great rapport and reputation within the community. He will play an important role as we execute our growth plan.”

Gilbertson worked with Granite City from 2007 to 2014. He also has worked with iMedia Brands Inc. and rareEARTH.

On Sept. 17, Famous Dave’s of America took on the new BBQ Holdings corporate name and changed its stock exchange symbol from DAVE to BBQ. Part of the reason for the name change was the fourth-quarter opening of a new concept, Clark Crew BBQ, in Oklahoma City.

As part of the company’s turnaround efforts, a franchisee opened a fast-casual version of Famous Dave’s last May in Tucson, Ariz.

For the third quarter ended Sept. 29, BBQ Holdings reported a loss of $50,000, with a result of no earnings per share, compared to income of $1.4 million, or 15 cents a share, in the same period a year before. Revenue in the quarter was $23.7 million compared to $14.1 million in the prior-year period.

As of Nov. 12, BBQ Holdings owned 32 Famous Dave’s locations and franchised an additional 96 Famous Dave’s restaurants in 32 states, Canada and the United Arab Emirates.
