With all of the buzz surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s nuptials last May, restaurant operators created their own riff on the official wedding cake — lemon and elderflower — to please fans of the royal event. Van Leeuwen, a Brooklyn, N.Y.-based ice cream company, served a limited-time ice cream flavor, Royal Wedding Cake, at its then eight shops in New York City and three shops in Los Angeles. The flavor was made with a sweet cream base, a swirl of elderflower buttercream frosting and pieces of lemon pound cake.
