Flavor of the Week: Elderflower lends delicate floral touch

The flower is commonly used to make a syrup for cocktails and desserts

Elderflower, the flower of the elderberry, is often steeped in a concentrated sugar solution to make a syrup. It’s also the base flavor for St. Germain liqueur, found in a variety of cocktails. A traditional flavor in much of central and northern Europe, its presence on menus in the United States has grown by 91% over the past four years, and 26% of the American population knows of it.
