Flavor of the Week: Cortado mixes espresso with steamed milk

The Spanish drink has jumped +118% on U.S. menus in the past four years

While Spanish in origin, the cortado is an espresso-based drink that is popular in Europe and is beginning to make a mark in the U.S. The typical build for cortados consists of equal parts espresso and steamed milk. It is not to be mistaken for the Australian flat white, which has a similar espresso-to-milk ratio, but uses micro-foamed milk that adds texture, as opposed to the cortado’s steamed milk.
