Sizzler said to be considering trademark suit against lottery group

CULVER CITY Calif. Sizzler International, parent of the namesake buffet-and-grill brand, has reportedly threatened to sue an alliance that runs lotteries in several states because the group is using the word “sizzler” in the name of a new game.

The Multi-State Lottery Association, based in Urbandale, Iowa, operates trademarked lottery games such as Powerball in 30 states. A new game was recently dubbed Hot Lotto Sizzler.

According to The Des Moines Register, Sizzler’s attorneys have threatened to file a lawsuit, alleging that “sizzler” is a trademarked term. It was not clear whether any specific legal action has actually been taken.

Lottery officials reportedly said they hope to go to court to settle the issue, rather than get rid of the game.
