Samuelsson’s Marc Burger opens in Chicago Macy’s

CHICAGO Marc Burger, a new upscale burger concept featuring selections developed by New York chef Marcus Samuelsson, has opened in the food court of the Macy’s on State Street here. The quick-service kiosk is one of a half-dozen on the department store’s seventh floor where shoppers can order signature items of well-known chefs.

A second Marc Burger is scheduled to open in a Macy's in Costa Mesa, Calif., before the end of the year, according to the retail chain. 

Marc Burger’s menu lists six beef burgers, ranging from the Classic for $7.95 to the Marc Burger, featuring “prime” beef topped with a fried egg for $12.95. Other sandwich choices are a turkey burger, a portobello mushroom burger, a fish sandwich and a chicken breast sandwich. All come with seasoned fries and small portions of coleslaw and sliced pickles. Frozen custards priced from $2.25 to $2.95, oversized cookies that sell for $2 and soft drinks fill out the menu.

Samuelsson rose to prominence in New York at Aquavit, a restaurant featuring Scandinavian fare. He also is involved with Riingo, a Japanese restaurant

Other kiosks in the Macy’s food court include Frontera Fresco from Rick Bayless of Frontera Grill; Noodles from Takashi Yagihashi of Takashi, also Chicago-based; and La Brea Bakery, named after the famed spot in Los Angeles. The store’s housewares department sells packaged foods affiliated with the chefs.

As previously reported, Macy’s also is working with chefs Todd English, Wolfgang Puck and Cat Cora.
