Quiznos to open units in India

DENVER Quiznos, a 5,000-plus-unit sandwich chain, said Monday it would enter the India market through a new franchise agreement with HMSHost Corp. to open three units in the country by 2010.

HMS Host, which already operates 50 Quiznos in North America, runs food operations in more than 100 airports around the globe, including India, as part of Autogrill S.p.A. Autogrill is in 42 countries with more than 1,200 locations, including 216 airports.

“Any time we can enter a new market with someone who has experience in the market, it allows us to expand much faster,” said Rob Streett, vice president of nontraditional development for Denver-based Quiznos.

The first Quiznos in India is expected to open by the end of the year or early 2010, the company said. The chain also has units in Canada, Central America, the United Kingdom, Korea and the Middle East.
