Puck, Mina to open in Detroit MGM

DETROIT Celebrity chefs Wolfgang Puck and Michael Mina have agreed to open restaurants in the MGM Grand Detroit here, a 335-room property scheduled to open later this year.

Puck is expected to open Wolfgang Puck Grille, a 17,000-square-foot, 190-seat bar-and-grill concept that will be his first 24-hour restaurant. Offering both a casual-dining area and fine dining, the Grille will feature signature dishes from some of Puck's better-known concepts, including Spago.

The restaurant, part of the Las Vegas-based Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining Group, will offer breakfast. It was designed by Tony Chi, who also designed Wolfgang Puck American Grille at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, N.J., and the Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Mina is planning to debut two concepts in Detroit: the seafood restaurant Saltwater and a steakhouse called Bourbon Steak.

Also designed by Chi, the high-end, dinner-only Saltwater will seat 96, with another 39 accommodated in the bar and lounge and 22 in private rooms. Bourbon Steak, to be designed by the firm Super Potato, will feature a classic steakhouse menu with 200 seats in the dining room, lounge and private-dining areas.

Mina's San Francisco based Mina Group operates six other restaurants, including Michael Mina San Francisco, Arcadia in San Jose, Calif., Stonehill Tavern in Dana Point, Calif., Seablue in the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and the Borgata in Atlantic City, and Stripsteak at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
