Popeyes picks new agency of record

ATLANTA Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits said Monday that it has named Omnicom Group’s GSD&M Idea City its new national creative ad agency of record.

The Austin, Texas-based agency, which replaces incumbent Fogarty Klein Monroe of Houston, will begin working immediately to develop creative campaigns for the brand. Spending was not announced.

Idea City's first assignment will be the creation and execution of in-store, online, print, TV and radio ads to promote a variety of new products scheduled to launch later this year. Initial work is expected to break in August.

GSD&M’s “remarkable consumer insight at both the consumer and retail levels, as well as their strategic thinking in the areas of creative, design, and retail presented a powerful case for their selection,” said Dick Lynch, Popeyes’ chief marketing officer.

Popeyes, a division of Atlanta-based AFC Enterprises Inc., has nearly 2,000 units in the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam and 24 other countries.
