NexCen promotes QSR franchise exec

NEW YORK NexCen Brands Inc. promoted David McDougall to the post of senior vice president of QSR operations for the franchising arm of the multi-brand franchisor.

McDougall, a 30-year veteran of the foodservice industry, first joined NexCen in 2007 as its vice president of QSR operations. Prior to that, he was a member of the Atlanta-based Focus Brands executive team and worked at Cinnabon for more than 12 years in various franchising roles.

At NexCen, which franchises more than 1,900 locations of the Marble Slab Creamery, MaggieMoo’s, Pretzel Time, Pretzelmaker and Great American Cookies brands, McDougall is responsible for operations, supply chain and training, the company said Monday.

“[McDougall] has demonstrated expert knowledge in franchise management,” NexCen’s chief executive, Kenneth Hall, said in a statement Monday, “and his contribution to NexCen has been invaluable, particularly as we continue to focus on growing our franchise business.”

Late last year, NexCen, which has struggled in recent years, reported revenues for its franchising business were on the increase and that it had signed agreements to open more than 100 units across all of its brands. At the same time, the company also had completed a restructuring of its credit arrangements with lender BTU Capital Corp. and was continuing to explore additional strategic alternatives to increase liquidity.
