OAK BROOK Ill. McDonald’s is convening an online press conference on Nov. 27 to introduce the McSkillet Burrito, described by one franchisee as a new premium breakfast item.
The franchisee told Nation’s Restaurant News last month that he was testing one version of a McSkillet Burrito, consisting of steak, scrambled eggs, potatoes, cheese and red and green peppers, for $3.19. A second version, with sausage instead of steak, was selling for $2.69. Both had been testing well, Kansas City-based John Jelinek said at the time.
In an invitation sent Friday to NRN and other media outlets, franchisor McDonald’s Corp. said Jan Fields, executive vice president and chief operating officer of McDonald’s USA, would be joined by other corporate officers and suppliers in discussing the new breakfast option. The event, billed as a “virtual breakfast roundtable,” is titled “30 Years of Waking up With McDonald’s.”
The introduction comes as a number of quick-service chains are striving to develop distinctive morning choices. Subway, for instance, is testing a fresh-baked biscuit sandwich called the Breakfast Stuffer in some 850 Los Angeles stores.
Some locations have been offering an egg-and-cheese breakfast burrito, though not under the McSkillet name, for about eight years.
McDonald’s Corp., based here, operates or franchises more than 30,000 namesake restaurants worldwide.
