Manchu Wok unveils deep-fried cheesecake dessert

TORONTO Manchu Wok, a 200-unit quick-service chain offering Chinese food, has launched a deep-fried cheesecake dessert, made of warm cheesecake filling wrapped in a flaky crust. One piece is available for $1.79, or $1.29 with the purchase of a two- or three-item plate. Two pieces are $2.99.

Ernest Lam, the company’s vice president of menu strategy & training, said the dessert was in line with Chinese items such as spring rolls and egg rolls, which also are wrapped in light shells and deep-fried.

The launch comes after the company presented the dessert to a controlled focus group in which 93 percent of participants said they would recommend the item to family and friends.

To market the new item, participating Manchu Wok locations will be handing out free samples.

Toronto-based Manchu Wok is a subsidiary of Café de Coral in Hong Kong.
