BLOOMINGTON Minn. Levy Restaurants is partnering with Nickelodeon to do all foodservice at Nickelodeon Universe, a newly rebranded indoor theme park scheduled to debut early next year at the Mall of America here.
Chicago-based Levy will service everything from carts to catering and emphasize good nutrition for children, according to the companies’ joint statement.
Nickelodeon Universe replaces The Park at Mall of America, which had ranked as the nation’s largest indoor family amusement park, encompassing seven acres, since the 4.2 million-square-foot mall opened in 1992 in this suburb of Minneapolis and St. Paul.
The foodservice component is intended to complement Nickelodeon’s five-year-old health and wellness campaign, Let’s Just Play. Levy officials have said they would incorporate organic, naturally raised and locally grown foods into the menu offerings, as well as new twists on theme-park favorites and ethnic flavors.
Earlier this year, Levy entered into an agreement to develop and operate 10 theme restaurants in partnership with Schussler Creative Inc., the company that created and later sold the Rainforest Cafe and T-Rex theme concepts.
Levy’s sports and entertainment division portfolio includes accounts at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis.; the Staples Center in Los Angeles; and American Airlines Arena in Miami. The company also caters for such events as the Super Bowl, the World Series, the Kentucky Derby and the Grammy Awards.
