Jamba expands food offerings

EMERYVILLE Calif. Jamba has introduced a new line of novelty ice cream bars in retail stores and added four salads to the grab-and-go menu at Jamba Juice locations as part of its plans to expand licensing and boost in-store food offerings.

The Jamba Juice-branded Frozen Fruit Sorbet and Frozen Fruit Sorbet Yogurt Bars are manufactured in partnership with Oregon Ice Cream and will be available in five flavors. The bars are all natural, made with real fruit and contain fiber and vitamin C. Each box contains four 2.5-oz. bars and is priced at a recommended $3.99.

Flavors for the sorbet bars include Peach Blackberry Smash and Strawberry Lemonade Swirl. Flavors of the bars with yogurt include Vanilla Strawberry Jubilation, Vanilla Blueberry Pomegranate Perfection and Coconut Pineapple Passion Smashin’.

Jamba Inc., which operates or franchises 742 smoothie locations, last year announced plans to expand on licensing opportunities for the Jamba Juice brand. The company has signed agreements to develop a home smoothie kit, a toy smoothie maker and ready-to-drink beverages.

The new grab-and-go salads will be rolled out over the next several weeks at about 300 Jamba Juice units. The company last year revamped food offerings to include salads along with wrap sandwiches and pizza-like baked flatbreads.

The new salads include a Zesty Southwestern Grilled Chicken; a Ginger Soy Grilled Chicken; and two pasta side salads: Snappy Sesame Noodle and Mediterranean Medley.

James White, Jamba’s president and chief executive, said the company would continue to enhance grab-and-go options across more markets, as well as offering weekday specials to drive sales, similar to the periodic $1 oatmeal promotions.

Recently, the company launched a new hot beverage program in 342 stores featuring flavored chai and green teas as well as hot chocolate.
