HMSHost to open second Balducci's unit at JFK

NEW YORK As part of a push to include more local concepts in its airport concessions, HMSHost Corp. said it would open another branch of the Balducci's Italian market chain at JFK International Airport in New York next month.

The store is expected to offer freshly made sandwiches, salads, deli products, fruits, artisanal breads, cheeses and vegetables. HMSHost opened its first Balducci's outlet at JFK in April.

HMSHost opted for the concept because of consumer demand for "healthier and fresher options with a very pleasant ambience," said Pat Banducci, senior vice president of business development for the Bethesda, Md.-based travel-center concessionaire. "It’s a bonafide brand that’s successful in New York, and gives that sense of place to JFK.”

About 10 Balducci's food stores are in operation along the Eastern Seaboard.
