HealthyDiningFinder.com wins web award

SAN DIEGO HealthyDiningFinder.com, which helps consumers find healthful meals at more 60,000 restaurants nationwide, has received the Bronze Web Health Award from the Health Information Resource Center.

The award, given in the category of health promotion websites, recognizes HealthDiningFinder.com as having “the best web-based health-related content for consumers and professionals.” In addition to providing information on how to order a healthful meal at restaurants, the website offers educational content about nutrition and dining out as well as blogs and e-newsletters.

“We are honored to accept this award,” said Anita Jones-Mueller, president of Health Dining. “I especially want to thank the [more than] 60,000 restaurant locations that are featured on the site for their leadership roles in joining the Healthy Dining initiative and offering their customers 'dietitian-approved Healthy Dining' choices.”

Jones-Mueller noted that Healthy Dining is working to expand the website to include mobile access and social networking features.

Dawn Sweeney, president of the National Restaurant Association, which is a partner in HealthDiningFinder.com, said the website plays an important role in helping health-conscious consumers stay on track.

“American diners are becoming more interested in making smart choices when dining out and many seek nutrition information online before they choose a restaurant,” she said. “HealthyDiningFinder.com is a tremendously helpful resource to guests who want to enjoy their restaurant visit while keeping their waistlines in mind.”

The Health Information Resource Center is a national clearinghouse for consumer health programs. In addition to the Web Health Awards, the HIRC produces National Women's Health & Fitness Days USA and Family Health & Fitness Days USA.

Other recipients of the Web Health Awards include AARP, About.com, Aetna, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Eating Well, Humana, the Mayo Clinic and the National Cancer Institute.
