Hardee's proclaims chicken biscuit's superiority

CARPINTERIA Calif. Countering McDonald’s offer of free chicken biscuit sandwiches this week, Hardee’s restaurants are offering a full refund to customers who don’t agree that its Chicken Fillet Biscuit is the best.

Calling it the “Chicken Biscuit Challenge” in newspaper ads across the country, the Hardee’s offer is available through June 30.

“When some Johnny-come-McLately tries to tout the goodness of their much smaller chicken biscuit, we thought it was appropriate to let the consumer decide who makes the best one,” said Brad Haley, executive vice president of marketing for Hardee’s parent company CKE Restaurants Inc. “We’re confident that we won’t be paying out on very many money-back guarantees because our Chicken Fillet Biscuits aren’t just ‘Southern-style,’ like the other guy’s, they are real Southern biscuits.”

Hardee’s Chicken Fillet Biscuit is sold for a recommended $2.99 alone, or $4.59 as part of a combo meal.

On Thursday, McDonald's offered free samples of its Southern Style Chicken breakfast and lunch sandwiches. The company said it expected to give away 8 million sandwiches in the promotion.

CKE Restaurants Inc., based here, operates and franchises 1,926 Hardee’s restaurants as well as 1,141 Carl’s Jr. locations.
