CARPINTERIA Calif. Hardee's launched a Hawaiian Chicken Sandwich this week as a limited-time addition to its lineup of premium items.
The new item features a charbroiled chicken breast dressed with teriyaki sauce and a slice of grilled pineapple and topped with melted Swiss cheese, red onion, tomato, lettuce and mayonnaise. The recommended price is $3.79, or $5.59 for a small combo that includes natural-cut fries and a small drink.
"Hawaiian chicken sandwiches are a common menu item at sit-down restaurants and we have had great success in recent years making those kinds of products available to fast-food customers," said Brad Haley, Hardee's executive vice president of marketing. "From the introduction of the original 100-percent Angus beef line of Thickburgers more than four years ago -- which have now been copied by most other major fast-food burger chains -- to the Patty Melt Thickburger introduced earlier this summer, Hardee's has really built a reputation as a premium-quality burger place, and now we're expanding that to include distinctive chicken sandwiches as well."
Hardee's is a subsidiary of CKE Restaurants Inc., based here, which operates or franchises 1,905 Hardee's units and 1,101 Carl's Jr. restaurants.
