Genghis Grill parent buys 33 Yum units

The Chalak Group Inc. of Dallas, parent to the 56-unit Genghis Grill Mongolian stir-fry chain, said Thursday it had acquired 33 Yum! Brand franchised restaurants in the nation’s heartland.

Through an affiliate, Chalak Mitra Group LLC, Chalak acquired KFC, Taco Bell and Long John Silver’s units in Illinois, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Chalak Group said franchise owners Manish Patel and Pushpak Patel would continue to operate restaurants.

“It’s a competitive advantage for us to have Manish and Pushpak operate this division,” said Al Bhakta, chief executive of Chalak Group. “Being existing operators in the Yum system, they bring specific skills and experiences to the business.”

The Chalak Group had partnered with the Patels to open up their first KFC and Taco Bell location in Anna, Texas.

Chalak said Bhakta and his team will continue to focus on Genghis Grill, and the Patels on the franchised Yum concepts.
