Galatoire relatives seek to block restaurant's sale

NEW ORLEANS Members of the Galatoire family reportedly have filed suit in the Civil District Court of New Orleans to block the proposed sale of the 104-year-old French-Creole restaurant.

According to a report in The Times-Picayune, Michele Galatoire, Duane Galatoire Attaway, Leon R. Galatoire and Henry W. Kinney, the group’s lawyer and trustee to the Leon Galatoire Trust, are seeking an open-market valuation of the restaurant, which was founded in 1905 by Jean Galatoire. More than 30 of Jean Galatoire’s descendents now own the restaurant, including the plaintiffs.

The newspaper said the petition seeks to halt the sale of the restaurant to David Gooch, a restaurant manager and Galatoire family member; Melvin Rodrigue, the restaurant's chief operating officer; and a group of investors operating as Bourbon Investments LLC. The sale is still in the negotiation stage.
