SALEM Ore. The 31-unit Pizza Schmizza chain has been acquired by 100-unit Figaro’s Italian Pizza, officials of the Oregon-based brands said Monday. Terms were not disclosed.
Figaro’s chairman and chief executive Ron Berger said he plans to continue expanding the Pizza Schmizza concept, which specializes in thin-crust, by-the-slice pizzas, as well as Figaro’s, which offers both baked and ready-to-bake pizzas for takeout and delivery. The Salem, Ore.-based Figaro's has been expanding its brand offerings since the acquisition last year of the 10-unit Sargo’s Subs sandwich chain.
Officials of Hillsboro, Ore.-based Pizza Schmizza said they began contemplating a sale after chief executive and key shareholder Doug Wetter fell ill several months ago and could no longer lead the company.
The deal was brokered in part by Rick Glenn, vice president of Pizza Schmizza, who previously worked at Figaro’s.
