Dunkin’ withdraws glow stick premiums

CANTON Mass. Dunkin’ Donuts said it is voluntarily halting the giveaway of about 1 million pink and orange glow sticks that were the premiums in a doughnut promotion that began Sept. 24.

The chain discontinued the promotion after determining the glow sticks -- transparent plastic tubes containing certain chemicals that produce light without electrical power -- were improperly labeled and did not warn customers that the attached cap and lanyard when dislodged could be a choking hazard to children under the age of 3.

The company said it has not received any complaints or reports of injury.

The glow sticks were distributed at participating stores free of charge with every purchase of a dozen doughnuts or a 25- or 50-count box of Munchkin doughnut holes.

Dunkin’ has urged all customers who received a glow stick to keep them away from children and discard them immediately.
