Dunkin’ adds fresh-brewed iced tea

CANTON Mass. Dunkin’ Donuts, the 7,200-plus-unit quick-service chain, has extended its highly successful line of beverages with the rollout of freshly brewed ice tea.

A staple of the South, the regional favorite is available from Dunkin’ made-to-order in three flavors — original, raspberry and peach — and comes sweetened or unsweetened.

Five percent of all quick-service restaurant visits during the year ended April 2007 included the consumption of an iced tea, according to a survey conducted by The NPD Group CREST Services and cited by Dunkin’ in promotional materials for its new line. The same survey found that quick-service restaurants sold 2.3 billion servings of iced tea during that time period.

The launch is the latest in a line of product rollouts for Dunkin’ Donuts, which has included Sausage Supreme Omelet, White Hot Chocolate, French Toast Twists and freshly baked jumbo cookies.

Management has cited beverages as a key to the chain’s favorable traffic trends.

The wholly franchised chain, which is owned by Dunkin’ Brands, Inc. here, said it also is stepping up its expansion program, and plans to grow in existing markets while branching out throughout the South and West.
