ANN ARBOR Mich. Domino’s Pizza is claiming victory over Subway in a sandwich taste test conducted late this year.
The 8,000-plus-unit pizza delivery giant said that two out of three taste-test participants preferred its Oven Baked Philly Cheese Steak, Chicken Bacon Ranch, and Italian subs over Subway’s Steak & Cheese, Chicken & Bacon Ranch and Italian BMT sandwiches. Domino's said in a statement that an independent research company conducted the national taste test study.
Domino's is touting the taste test's results in a national campaign that launched Monday. The media campaign includes print and online ads, as well as TV spots that feature various experts demonstrating how big a 2-1 margin is in their respective fields.
The taste-test ad campaign is the pizza chain's latest dig against Subway. In September, Domino's targeted the sandwich giant and its longtime spokesman, Jared Fogle, by offering a free Oven Baked Sandwich to any customer named Jared.
Domino's debuted its Oven Baked sandwich line in August with four subs, including a Chicken Parm, for $4.99 each.
