Domino’s wants Jareds to try new sandwiches

ANN ARBOR Mich. Domino’s Pizza is taking a swipe at Subway and its famous ad spokesman in a promotion that will award a free Oven Baked Sandwich to consumers named Jared.

The first 1,000 consumers with that name who contact the chain at [email protected] will receive a gift certificate for the sandwich. Domino’s recently introduced a line of four oven-baked sandwiches to compete with Subway in the sandwich category. Domino’s said last week that consumers in a taste test in Washington, D.C., preferred its oven-baked Philly Cheesesteak and Italian sandwiches to Subway’s comparable products. Domino’s two other oven-baked sandwiches are the Chicken Bacon Ranch and the Chicken Parm.

Subway is the leader in the sandwich category, and for the past 10 years its ad spokesman, Jared Fogle, has been promoting how he lost weight by eating the chain’s low-fat sandwiches.

"The 'Jareds' of the world have got to be clamoring for hot, tasty sandwiches," Domino’s USA president Patrick Doyle said in a statement.

Consumers in the Domino’s promotion must present a copy of their driver’s license proving they’re named Jared. The chain said it would accept any variation in spelling.

Domino’s has 8,671 company-owned and franchised units worldwide.
