Delta said to plan NYC restaurant as marketing tool

NEW YORK Delta Air Lines is opening a restaurant-lounge in midtown Manhattan to showcase the airline’s new line of in-flight meals, according to a local news report.

Sky360, which is expected to make its debut Oct. 2, will feature selections developed specifically for the formerly bankrupt carrier by celebrity chefs Todd English, of Olives and Figs fame, and Michelle Bernstein, of Michy’s in Miami, according to the New York Post. English’s creations are available for purchase in Delta’s coach class, and the dishes developed by Bernstein are offered for a fee in business and first-class seating.

The 3,800-square-foot facility also will feature a cocktails menu developed by nightclub impresario Rande Gerber, the Post reported.

English’s entrees reportedly include chilled black olive spaghetti salad and a roast beef Cobb sandwich. Those and other items will be served from beverage carts by Sky360 waitstaff dressed in airline uniforms, according to the Post. The article said Sky360 will feature airline seats, 24 channels of satellite TV and other in-seat entertainment. It also features a reservations area where visitors can check flights and book trips.

The lounge reportedly will be open for a limited time only, but the airline said it hopes to attract 1,000 visitors to the lounge every day, with an unspecified target number converted into in-flight patrons.
