Compass inks 'partnership' with O'Naturals chain

CHARLOTTE N.C. Contract feeder Compass Group North America said it has secured rights to develop units of O’Naturals, the natural-foods quick-serve chain, across all of its business lines.

Under what it termed a strategic partnership, Compass said it would open franchised O’Naturals kiosks and restaurants in corporate dining, college and hospital foodservice accounts, as well as at other contracted locations.

O’Naturals, a 2004 Nation’s Restaurant News Hot Concepts! Award winner, currently has three company-owned and two franchised units in its portfolio. The deal with Compass could grow the company significantly. The Portland, Me.-based concept specializes in organic and natural food.

“This is a huge opportunity to expand our concept and roll out O’Naturals to people across the country,” said Gary Hirshberg, founder and chairman of the O’Naturals chain. “Our timing could not be better as people are demanding organic and natural offerings, even when on the run. This partnership with Compass Group brings O’Naturals to an entirely new level.”

O’Naturals' menu includes flatbread sandwiches made with wild bison and Alaskan salmon, slow-roasted organic beef and sesame spinach salads.

Compass Group North America, which last year posted revenues of more than $8.4 billion, is a division of London-based foodservice conglomerate Compass Group PLC.
