Coco's bolsters appetizer menu

CARLSBAD Calif. A week after upgrading its coffee, family-dining chain Coco’s Bakery Restaurant, best known for its pie, has launched a line of high-end appetizers, organic wines and sangrias.

The appetizers are designed either to be ordered as shared snacks or as accompaniments to entrŽes. They range in price from $5.29 for macadamia-crusted brie with jalapeno-raspberry sauce, Italian bread and red grapes, to $9.99 for a vineyard duo of the brie appetizer, Genoa salami, country p‰tŽ, mozzarella, tomatoes and basil drizzled in olive oil and served with grapes, asparagus, cornichons and a bread basket.

The new organic Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon wines are offered at $5.45 and $5.75 a glass, respectively, compared with $4.25 to $4.75 for other glasses of wine on the menu.

The new Sangria Frescas range in price from $4.25 to $4.55 and are red or white wines with fruit flavors.

"By featuring gourmet ingredients and selections usually only found at much higher price points, we are creating the highest quality — yet still comfortable and reasonably priced — dining atmosphere for our customers," said Kazumasa Ogawa, president of Coco's parent Catalina Restaurant Group, which also owns the Carrows chain.

There are more than 110 Coco’s in California, Arizona, Nevada and Colorado.
