Checker's, Rally's to stay open later

TAMPA Fla. Checker's Drive-In Restaurants is joining the host of quick-service restaurants that have pushed back their closings times. The company announced Monday that most of the units in its Checker's and Rally's drive-thru chains will now remain open until midnight or later.

"We will continue to increase the number of restaurants operating at extended hours over the next several months," said Rick Silva, president and chief executive.

He said the company chose to extend the hours of its brands in response to consumer demand and the emergence of what he called a "24/7 economy." The concern said it expects late-night sales to be a growing part of its business.

Checkers is far from the first chain to extend its hours. Burger King, McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco Bell and others have all extended their hours to generate more sales per store.

Checkers Drive-In Restaurants operates or franchises more than 800 quick-service Checkers and Rally's   double drive-thrus in 28 states and the District of Columbia.
