Boston Market adds sliders

GOLDEN, Colo. Boston Market has launched a new line of sandwiches called Market Sliders that could help fuel its push into the lunch daypart.

The 514-unit chain is characterizing the new slider line as "a lighter meal or even as an afternoon snack." Earlier this year chief executive Lane Cardwell had said Boston Market was testing several sandwiches and salads in an effort to boost sales during the lunch period.

"Boston Market was created as a diner-only concept, and we've never really had a lunch menu," Cardwell said at the time.

The sliders are available in three variations:

  • BBQ Chicken & Cheddar: Rotisserie chicken topped with barbecue sauce and melted aged cheddar.
  • Meatloaf & Cheddar: Slices of meatloaf topped with hickory ketchup and melted aged cheddar.
  • Turkey & Swiss: Hand-carved turkey topped with aged Swiss cheese and dill Parmesan mayo.

The chain said the Market Sliders will be available nationwide for the introductory price of $2.99 for three Sliders, or $4.99 for a combo that includes three sliders, a regular gourmet side dish and a regular drink. The offer will run through May 31.

"Sliders have been a popular menu addition request, particularly by those who are already fans of Boston Market classics, such as rotisserie chicken, turkey and meatloaf," Cardwell said.

The sliders mark the latest product launch for the Golden, Colo.-based chain. Last month Boston Market introduced a new line of five complimentary sauces that customers can add to their rotisserie chicken and other entrŽes.

The new sauces are Island Mojo, Zesty Barbecue, Sweet Thai Chili Garlic, Frank's Sweet Heat and Honey Habanero.
