BK seeks votes in Latino music tour

MIAMI Burger King Corp. is adding an online-voting component to its national Latino music tour to better engage the growing Hispanic population and younger computer-savvy fans.

Burger King’s third annual “Tu Ciudad, Tu Mœsica (Your City, Your Music)” promotional tour starts March 8 and will feature headliner Pee Wee, formerly of the Kumbia All-Stars, and salsa music legend Eddie Santiago. Actress Patricia de Leon will host the 10-city U.S. tour, which begins in McAllen, Texas.

The interactive online voting will give fans the chance to support their favorite local bands during the tour. The national winner will have the opportunity to open two concert tour dates for a popular Latino recording artist.

“Our Tu Ciudad, Tu Mœsica program embraces Hispanic culture and music on a national scale by showcasing the incredibly diverse talent of Latino music’s rising stars,” said Alexandra Galindez, Burger King’s director of multicultural marketing. Galindez added that the Internet component of the promotion will “heighten the competition.”

Fans can vote for local bands in each of the tour’s 10 cities, and those will face off in a final round of online voting at www.BurgerKingMusica.com.

The website also allows fans to “virtually promote” their bands through social networking sites such as MySpace, Facebook and Evite.

The Tu Ciudad, Tu Musica tour dates and cities are: March 8, Dodge Arena, McAllen, Texas; March 21, Ramblas Plaza, Dolphin Mall, Miami; April 18, St. Mary’s University, San Antonio; April 26, AT&T Fiesta Broadway, Los Angeles; May 3, Centennial Olympic Park, Atlanta; May 10, George R. Brown Convention Center, Houston; May 16, Colorado Mills Mall, Denver; May 23, downtown San Francisco; June 13, 106th Street and 3rd Avenue, New York; June 20, Division Street and California Avenue, Chicago.
