BK douses Heather Mills rumor

MIAMI The report that Heather Mills, the former model and ex-wife of Beatle Sir Paul McCartney, was to become a spokeswoman for Burger King Corp. is, well, a bit of a whopper.

Word spread Monday in the British press and then on blogs that Mills, an animal rights activist, had contracted with Burger King for $3 million pounds (about $4.4 million in U.S. dollars) to promote meat-free Burger King products. However, Lauren Kuzniar, a spokeswoman for Burger King Corp. in Miami, said the Heather Mills information is not true.

“At Burger King, we’re never afraid of the 'rumor mill,' but in this case, any discussions between Heather Mills and The King regarding spokesperson work are completely unfounded,” Kuzniar said. “However we can confirm that Burger King Corp. is one of the only quick-service restaurants offering a veggie burger. The BK Veggie Burger has been on the Burger King menu since 2002."

The People magazine in Britain had reported Mills would be promoting a meat-free burger for the burger chain. It also said she was working on launching a vegan eatery in the United Kingdom.

Her manager later told the World Entertainment News Network: “The Burger King story isn't true. É Heather hasn't been paid $3 million [pounds] but she would love to get vegan burgers or any vegan food out there via any avenue possible and Burger King would be a great place to begin.”
