BOSTON Au Bon Pain has added desserts to its Portions small-plates line with five treats that each contain 200 calories or fewer, the 226-unit bakery-cafe company said Friday.
The 2-ounce desserts, priced at $2.99 each, include Chocolate Duo, Fruit Romanoff with Almonds, Mango Coconut Mousse, Raspberry Mousse and Tiramisu. Au Bon Pain will roll out the desserts systemwide, a spokeswoman said.
Au Bon Pain debuted its Portions line earlier this year with 14 items that each weighed between 4 ounces and 5 ounces and contained 200 calories or less. The dishes included such items as hummus and cucumbers, Thai peanut chicken, and Brie, fruit and crackers.
Au Bon Pain's corporate executive chef, Thomas John, who developed the Portions line, said the new dessert items are the result of consumers’ demand for smaller, lower-calorie treats that don’t sacrifice quality or taste.
The desserts, he said, would make it “easy for guests to know exactly how many calories they are consumingÉ the perfect way to satisfy any sweet tooth without the guilt.”
