Better burger chains shine in Limited Service

This is part of the Nation’s Restaurant News annual Second 100 report, a proprietary ranking of restaurant brands Nos. 101-200 by U.S. systemwide sales and other data. This special report is a companion to the Top 100 report.    

Better burger chains, a subset of the Limited-Service segment, continued to perform well in the Latest Year, with a boost from menu innovations and IPO buzz.

Regional chains with cult followings, such as Shake Shack, The Habit Burger Grill and Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, led the pack. The three brands were the fastest-growing Limited-Service chains in terms of sales and unit growth in the Second 100.
