Hungry workers can now Slack their pizza orders.
Domino’s Pizza Inc. on Monday announced that its customers could now order their pizzas through the popular workplace-messaging program Slack — making it the first nationwide pizza chain to enable such ordering.
Slack is a rapidly growing communications tool that’s increasingly common at workplaces. It has more than 9 million active workers and is available at companies in more than 100 countries. Taco Bell already enables ordering through Slack.
For Domino’s, employees are an enticing group, opening up more lunch orders while helping the 14,000-unit chain flex its technological muscle.
More than 60 percent of the Ann Arbor, Mich.-based company’s orders now come in through digital channels. Its same-store sales have increased for 26 straight quarters in part because of Domino’s digital usage.
Slack users can go to the Slack App directory and install the Domino’s ordering app for their workplace. Workers can order via a direct Slack message to Domino’s or collaborate on a group owner in a Slack channel. Customers can also request a coupon that will give them a 20-percent discount on all Slack orders.
“We love to make ordering as easy and convenient as possible, and that includes ordering for the workplace,” Dennis Maloney, Domino’s chief digital officer, said in a statement. “Now you can order a group lunch with your coworkers down the hall, all from the comfort of your cubicle.”
Domino’s has been aggressively expanding its digital capabilities in the past few years, giving consumers more options for ordering their pizzas. The fast-casual chain has ordering through Twitter, text, smart televisions, the Amazon Echo, Facebook Messenger, Google Home and others.
