NRA undertakes ‘pro-active’ nutrition-disclosure initiative

CHICAGO The National Restaurant Association is responding to the heightened governmental interest in nutrition-disclosure requirements by mounting a “pro-active” new initiative called the Coalition for Responsible Nutritional Information, the association revealed during a board meeting here.

Richard Snead, chief executive of Carlson Restaurants Worldwide and chairman of the NRA’s Government Affairs and Public Policy Committee, cited menu labeling mandates as a key political concern to the association, second only to food safety. He noted that the formation of the Coalition has been approved, but did not divulge details about its strategy or what other parties may be invited to participate.
