Danny Meyer to open 4th Shake Shack

NEW YORK Union Square Hospitality Group said this week it planned to open its fourth Shake Shack restaurant here, although no opening date was given.

The restaurant, a gourmet fast-food burger joint, will be a standalone unit located in downtown Manhattan, on Prince Street, north of Little Italy.

“We’re ecstatic to have found this one-of-a-kind downtown location in the Nolita neighborhood — just steps away from the heart of SoHo,” Danny Meyer, Union Square Hospitality’s founder and chief executive, said. “Shake Shack is thrilled to make its home in this vibrant community that attracts throngs of people — New Yorkers and tourists alike — on a daily basis. We look forward to joining and contributing to the fabric of this dynamic community.”

Meyer has said in the past that Shake Shack is his company’s growth vehicle. The first location, located in Madison Square Park, debuted in 2004; the second opened on the Upper West Side in 2008, and the third, which opened earlier this year, is housed in the food court at Citi Field, the home ballpark of the New York Mets baseball team.

In addition to the Shake Shack chain, Union Square Hospitality owns and operates such restaurant concepts as Union Square CafŽ, Gramercy Tavern, Eleven Madison Park, Tabla, Blue Smoke/Jazz Standard and The Modern. It also plans to open Maialino, an upscale Italian trattoria, at the Gramercy Park Hotel this fall.
