Bertucci’s debuts new online ordering channels

Customers can place carry-out orders via website, Facebook or iPhone app

Bertucci’s, the 90-unit, New England-based casual-dining chain, said it plans to rollout online ordering systemwide by August, on the heels of the platform’s debut in Providence, R.I., and Boston on Thursday.

The chain also debuted an iPhone app.

Customers can place take-out orders from Bertucci’s website [3], Facebook page [4] or iPhone app [5], which can be downloaded for free from iTunes.

Bertucci’s is developing apps for other smart phones and plans to release them in October, the company said in a press release.

To promote the new service, the company is offering customers a $10 discount off of their first order when they create an account on Bertucci’s Brick Oven To Go website.

“We created Bertucci’s online ordering for our guests. We know people lead busy lives and we wanted to provide our guests greater access to Bertucci’s carry-out menu and make it as simple and easy as possible to place an order,” said Skip Weldon, the company’s senior vice president of marketing, in the release.

The online system has been in development for nearly a year.

About 18 percent of casual dining restaurants took orders online as of last March, according to a study on online ordering trends [6] conducted by the Center for Hospitality Research at Cornell University and sponsored by Nation’s Restaurant News.

Bertucci’s is a casual-dining chain whose signature design and culinary element is a brick pizza oven.
