Long John Silver’s names new CMO

Angela Sanders joins quick-service seafood chain

Long John Silver’s, the quick-service seafood chain, has named Angela Sanders as chief marketing officer, the company said Thursday.

The Louisville, Ky.-based company said Sanders’ hiring signals a focus on brand innovation and growth following the recent debut of a new logo.

The CMO position had been vacant since Charles StClair left Long John Silver’s in April 2014.

“Long John Silver’s is beginning a new chapter,” said James O’Reilly, Long John Silver’s CEO, in a statement. “Angela is a seasoned marketer who can lead the charge to tell our brand story as we evolve, while respecting the heritage of this brand.”

Sanders most recently served as a senior vice president at 6,000-unit Jackson Hewitt Tax Service Inc., where she helped reposition and re-launch the brand.

Sanders has restaurant marketing experience at such brands as Smashburger, Einstein Noah Restaurant Group and Boston Market.

She will be responsible for leading the marketing team and developing the strategic voice and direction of Long John Silver’s. She will report to O’Reilly and also work closely with the brand’s franchise advisory board.

“It’s an exciting time for this brand,” said Sanders, adding that Long John Silver’s is introducing a number of new products, such as beer-battered cod, and rolling out a new restaurant design.

Earlier this month, Long John Silver’s announced three executive promotions, including Toni Bianco as chief operating officer, Brian Unger as president of Long John Silver’s operating company and senior vice president of U.S. franchising and development, and Krista Foster as vice president of human resources.

Long John Silver’s has nearly 1,000 franchised and company-owned restaurants nationwide.
