Friendly’s CEO John Maguire got another title Wednesday: CEO of Johnny Rockets.

The 350-unit burger chain has named Maguire its next CEO. He will also remain as CEO of FIC Restaurants Inc., the operator of the Friendly’s family-dining chain. Both concepts are owned by the private-equity group Sun Capital Partners Inc., which acquired Johnny Rockets in 2013.

“Johnny Rockets’ mission is in line with what we’re doing at Friendly’s, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead another iconic restaurant brand,” Maguire said in a statement. “The international reach of the Johnny Rockets brand, the passion and enthusiasm of its franchisees, and the unique outlets in which it serves guests on a daily basis, present exciting opportunities for growth.”

Immediate plans are for Johnny Rockets and Friendly’s to operate independently, while management collaborates on how to “capitalize on the synergy” of the two brands.

The move comes a month after Friendly’s finalized the sale of its ice cream business, as well as the Friendly’s trademark, to Dean Foods for $155 million.

Johnny Rockets is based in Lake Forest, Calif.
