Top 200

The Nation’s Restaurant News annual Top 200 census of foodservice brands, including the Top 100 and the Second 100, shows a return to growth for the nation’s largest restaurant chains, as aggregate sales rose and unit growth returned, albeit slightly.

The largest foodservice brands, those ranked Nos. 1-100, expanded in 2011, tallying $205.72 billion in U.S. systemwide sales — an increase of 4.47 percent from the previous year. The Second 100 class, those brands ranking Nos. 101-200, boasted total U.S. systemwide sales of $24.58 billion, an increase of 1.61 percent from the previous year.

Standouts were no surprise, with the like of Chipotle and Five Guys Burgers & Fries dominating growth tables in the Top 100 universe and emerging brands like Yard House, Jersey Mike’s and The Capital Grille taking top growth spots in the Second 100 dataset.

A brief look at the results is available online, and the full special reports are available in the June 25 issue (Top 100) and July 23 issue (Second 100) of Nation’s Restaurant News. Subscribe here.
