Penton taps Chris Keating to lead Restaurant Group

NRN parent promotes group publisher to vice president, market leader

Penton has promoted Chris Keating from publisher to vice president and market leader of the Restaurant Group. Keating will report to Dan Bagan, senior vice president of Penton.

In this position Keating will be responsible for the Nation’s Restaurant News, Restaurant Hospitality and Food Management brands, as well as the MUFSO conference.

“Chris has had an impressive track record of successes in his current role and will be a tremendous asset as we move forward,” Bagan said. “We are very excited to welcome Chris to this new role.”

Keating joined NRN in 2008 and came to Penton with NRN’s acquisition from Lebhar-Friedman in 2010. Before that, he spent 19 years at United Business Media in a variety of roles, including vice president and group publisher of the Business Technology Group. He oversaw media brands covering a range of technology verticals, including the computer security, telecommunications and database markets.

Randall Friedman, who had been leading the Restaurant Group, is returning to Lebhar-Friedman as president and chief executive. Friedman joined Penton in 2010 when NRN was acquired.

“We’re all going to miss Randall,” Keating said. “He’s been an outstanding leader of our group and he’s going to be an outstanding leader at Lebhar-Friedman.”

Additionally, Richard Price, currently digital sales director for the Restaurant Group, is being made managing director of the sales team, reporting to Keating. Price is a 20-year media veteran who has worked at various consumer and business-to-business publishing companies in audience development and business development roles. As national sales director at Crain Communications’ Television Week, he proved himself to be a digital innovator.

“There are few people in business media today who understand the intersection of audience, marketer and technology as well as Richard,” Keating said.
