Black Bear Diner names VP of franchise development

Doug Branigan was previously COO for Sprinkles cupcake chain

Family-dining concept Black Bear Diner has hired Doug Branigan as vice president of franchise development, a newly created position, the company said Friday.

Branigan was previously chief operating officer for the Sprinkles cupcake chain, based in Beverly Hills, Calif. Prior experience also includes stints at Morton’s Steakhouse, Mimi’s Café and Smashburger.

In his new role at Black Bear, based in Redding, Calif., Branigan will oversee franchise sales and operations as the concept accelerates growth. The 60-unit chain has set a goal of reaching 100 units by 2018.

“Doug is a proven industry leader and he clearly grasps our vision of steady, strategic growth,” said Bruce Dean, Black Bear’s co-founder.
